Ever since Dwayne Wade's messy and very public divorce with his ex wife, Gabrielle Union has been branded a homewrecker. Gabrielle has come out to talk about the long standing rumors revealing that her career was affected tremendously by the claims.
"It's hard because aside from loving him I wanna protect myself. I've built my life, I've built my own brand, I've built my own career. And my career took a hit from that madness because some people just refuse to see the truth even when it's presented to them time and time again," Gabrielle told TT Torrez at last weekend's Radio One Fest in Miami.
"I love him, but at some point it's about self-preservation and I
needed to protect myself and everything I built. I pay for my family, I
pay for my momma and my daddy and my sisters and her family. D doesn't
write those checks, I do, so when something is starting to affect how I
make a living, no, no, no baby."
Gabrielle also went on to explain how her main concern was how Dwyane's sons with their mother were being affected by the difficult period.
"Let me figure out a way of not only protecting our home that me and
Dwyane have with the kids, you have to put them first and their love of
their mom and their love of peace of mind and their love of consistency
first," she explained. "And then, I gotta make sure I can still feed my own family, and
luckily, by taking the high road and not engaging in the back and forth
craziness, I was able to do both."
"Luckily by doing the right thing and putting the children first, it worked out that I was able to save myself."
